Texas Southern University (TSU) invites nominations and applications for its next Dean of the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology (COSET). TSU seeks a dynamic leader who will be responsible for setting strategic, operational, and financial direction for COSET. The Dean will work in concert with faculty, staff, students, and university administration to promote a culture of excellence.
The College of Science, Engineering, and Technology is dedicated to integrating sciences and contemporary technologies through education; scholarly activities; and college, university, professional, and community service to meet the needs of a diverse graduate and undergraduate student population while addressing critical urban issues within a global economy. COSET is a vibrant and creative place to pursue many fields of study in the following eight academic departments: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental & Interdisciplinary Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Physics, and Transportation Studies. COSET has several undergraduate concentrations, M.S. programs (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental & Interdisciplinary Sciences, Mathematical Science, and Transportation Studies), and a Ph.D. program in Environmental & Interdisciplinary Sciences. Moreover, the College has various research centers, special academic and research programs, and over 40 research and teaching laboratories.
There are two state-of-the art facilities for research and training. The science building houses Biology, Chemistry, Environmental & Interdisciplinary Sciences, and Mathematical Sciences. The technology building consists of Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, and Transportation Studies. Both facilities cultivate an environment for faculty to engage with students through scholarly activities such as teaching, critical learning, and scientific research in an exemplary diverse cultural environment. There are five research centers that are nationally acclaimed for cutting-edge research and technology and several accredited programs to promote academic excellence through course offerings and teaching strategies.
Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of COSET is responsible for maintaining state, regional, and national accreditation standards; ensuring students’ academic and personal welfare; supporting faculty in teaching, research, and service; optimizing the workflow of the College; and fostering the mission and vision of TSU.
