This is an exciting opportunity to join an organization dedicated to providing state and national advocacy for its more than 100 institutional members.
CHA is one of the most diverse and respected hospital associations in the nation and has earned a reputation for innovation in advancing statewide patient safety, quality, and community and health equity initiatives. From its Wallingford, Connecticut location, CHA’s staff of approximately 50 dedicated professional employees provide a wide range of services to its members.
Working directly with the Senior Vice President, Policy, the Director, Clinical Workforce Policy will work on a wide array of initiatives and strategies supporting clinical workforce policy. This pivotal role will address a broad spectrum of clinical workforce policy issues, partner with CHA’s advocacy team to scrutinize laws, regulations, and processes, and engage in statewide policy work at the intersection of clinical practice, operational processes, and workforce development. Additionally, the Director will serve as a key representative of CHA to both internal and external constituencies focused on clinical workforce policy.
The successful Director, Clinical Workforce Policy candidate will:
- Lead statewide policy coordination and address overlapping issues between clinical practice and operational processes, such as vaccination policies, masking, and visitation protocols.
- Advocate with the Office of Workforce Strategy and other state agencies to secure and implement state-funded workforce investment programs. Represent CHA to external stakeholders on workforce issues, with a focus on high school readiness for healthcare careers.
- Ensure the development of a highly skilled future workforce, prepared for evolving roles in a supportive and safe workplace. Identify opportunities to expand the workforce pipeline and healthcare career pathways.
- Collaborate with community programs and the state university system to enhance the education pipeline, including recruiting additional faculty, students, expanding career ladder programs, and increasing clinical placement opportunities.
- Support CHA’s advocacy team with workforce initiative requests. Examine laws, regulations, and processes, and recommend improvements related to interstate licensing compacts, potential licensing barriers, staffing ratio requirements, and funding.
The preferred candidate will possess a Master of Public Health, Master of Business Administration, or related discipline and combination of clinical background and administrative management. Additionally, a minimum of 5-7 years of experience working in government affairs, clinical or health policy. Experience working in a hospital or health system on clinical workforce issues, with exposure to healthcare education, recruitment, or related human resources responsibilities is preferred.
