Kansas City, MO – Children’s Mercy Kansas City (Children’s Mercy) invites nominations, inquiries, and applications for the position of Division Director of Endocrinology. Reporting to the Chair of Pediatrics, the Division Director will be responsible for leading the clinical, educational, research, and quality missions of a comprehensive academic endocrinology program. Additionally, they will foster collaborative ties with the entire pediatric enterprise to ensure the welfare and improve the health of the children in the region.
Children’s Mercy is a nationally recognized children’s hospital founded in 1897 to provide care for the poor and ill children of Kansas City. As a freestanding, independent children’s hospital, Children’s Mercy provides comprehensive pediatric care across the spectrum of primary to quaternary care delivered by 750 doctors in more than 40 subspecialties. In 2023, Children’s Mercy conducted nearly 600,000 total visits, including 55,000 telemedicine visits; almost 204,000 emergency and urgent care visits; and 20,000 surgical cases. Children’s Mercy has been ranked consistently by U.S. News & World Report in the top 50 in nine of the ten assessed pediatric subspecialties.
The Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Children’s Mercy Kansas City is one of the largest in the country. The team is comprised of more than 120 members and includes 27 pediatric endocrinologists, six APRNs, registered nurses, certified diabetes educators, registered dieticians, psychologists, and social workers. Endocrine care is provided to more than 12,000 children in the region; in the past year, the department has seen more than 37,000 patients across all their outpatient centers, including several sites in the Kansas City metropolitan area as well as multiple distant sites in Missouri and Kansas.
The foremost quality necessary for this position is vision for the field of pediatric endocrinology. Other desired characteristics include: a track record of developing young clinicians into future leaders in pediatrics; interest in academic infrastructure and finances; experience in a high volume, diverse endocrinology service; successful collaborations with administration, hospital, and medical partners in managing endocrinology’s workflow while maintaining the highest value of care; and developing a culture of high team accountability and professionalism. The leader selected for this position will be a strategic and highly communicative physician who is a MD/DO or MD/DO/PhD and who is board certified in pediatric endocrinology. This is a clinical faculty position offering academic appointments at the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine and the Kansas University School of Medicine, rank to be commensurate with experience.
