California State University, Fresno (Fresno State) seeks a visionary, relational, and innovative academic leader committed to excellence in teaching, research, professional practice, and service as its next dean of the College of Health and Human Services.
Since its founding in 1911 as the Fresno State Normal School, the institution has evolved into a comprehensive, national research university and a recognized leader in serving Central California’s diverse, growing community. With an enrollment of nearly 24,000 students, Fresno State offers 72 undergraduate degree programs, 49 master’s degree programs, and three doctoral programs in the liberal arts and sciences as well as in a variety of professional disciplines emphasizing agriculture, business, engineering, and technology, health and human services, and education. The College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at Fresno State offers a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs which provide students with transformative academic experiences, and opportunities to apply academic theory to professional practice. The college is home to seven academic departments including Communicative Sciences and Deaf Studies, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Public Health, Recreation Administration, School of Nursing, and Social Work Education. The college plays a unique and critical role in educating health and human services professionals of the San Joaquin Valley. CHHS provides an especially important leadership role in community services through participation of its faculty in organizations, boards, and a variety of agencies and by conducting workshops, symposia, in-service education, and applied research.
Reporting to the provost and vice president for academic affairs, the dean serves as the chief administrative and academic officer for the College of Health and Human Services. The dean will articulate and advance a shared vision for the college that promotes interprofessional and interdisciplinary collaborations along with a culture of innovation and service to the community, all of which are rooted in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Additionally, the dean is responsible for leadership of the college’s student success efforts, accreditation, academic program planning, assessment of curriculum and instruction, recruitment and evaluation of faculty and staff, professional development and research support, and budgeting and fiscal management. The dean also represents the college and university in collaborating with all community, corporate, and professional organizations and agencies in areas of health and human services. The next dean will be expected to develop resources from internal and external connections that further the goals of the college and university. The dean will engage the faculty in developing innovative programs that build and integrate multiple strengths within the college while simultaneously partnering with the communities in the Central California region to address the critical issues in the health and human service environment that require consecutive generations of well-prepared health and human service professionals.
The successful candidate will have a terminal degree in a health science or human services discipline or its equivalent, along with a demonstrated record of teaching, research, service, and/or experience meriting appointment as a tenured full professor in the college. The dean must exhibit solid management skills, effectiveness in resource acquisition and allocation, ability to build partnerships within the university and throughout the community, demonstrated experience with accreditation processes, and a clear understanding of regional, state, and national trends in health and human services as well as higher education.

The anticipated hiring salary for this position is between $200,000 and $225,000 annually.
