Florida State University invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the inaugural assistant vice president (AVP) for career services. FSU seeks an experienced leader with a deep understanding of career services and an ability to galvanize a strong workforce while effectively liaising with the various academic schools and colleges and shaping a vision for the future of Career Services. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Amy Hecht, the AVP for Career Services will be a committed educator, talented administrator, and strategic, future-focused thinker with the intellectual and personal qualities essential to growing and fostering a student-centered and outcomes-driven environment. The AVP will join FSU at a pivotal moment in its institutional trajectory that has reaffirmed its commitment to a robust, community-minded and engaging academic and co-curricular experiences for a motivated student population.
One of the nation’s elite research universities, Florida State University consistently enrolls strong students and outcomes, being recognized in 2021 with the Degree Completion Award from the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU), recognized as the most prominent award in the country for student success. FSU is also home to over 45,000 students and nearly 400,000 living alumni and ranked #23 among national public universities in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings. FSU has also scored its highest-ever ranking among national universities (both public and private) at No. 53. U.S. News also ranked 20 of FSU’s graduate programs and specialties in the Top 25 among public universities in 2022.
FSU boasts strong student outcomes where their students have received prestigious national scholarships and fellowships, including Rhodes Scholarships (2009, 2008, and 2005), Truman Scholarships, Fulbright Fellowships, a Goldwater Scholarship, a Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship, a Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship, a Fulbright Hays Award, and a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship.
The AVP will be an experienced leader with a strong reputation and ability to shape and execute a vision for career services that underwrites the evolving structure of career service offerings at FSU. The AVP will have proven strengths and engage in innovative and strategic thinking and long-range planning with university leaders and other campus constituents. The inaugural AVP must resonate with, be committed to, and speak passionately about the mission of Florida State and the value of public university higher education more broadly.
