Reporting to the Vice President and General Counsel, the AVP CHRO will serve as a strategic partner to the leadership team and position the University’s workforce to meet its current and future needs with the understanding that it is outstanding people, more than anything, who will allow the University to fulfill its mission. As a champion of workplace culture, the CHRO will identify, recommend, and advance initiatives that allow staff and faculty members to do their best work. Across CMU, the AVP CHRO will provide direction and strategy on issues involving recruitment and retention; onboarding and professional development; employee and labor relations; benefits and compensation; performance assessments and evaluation; and human resources technology.
The successful candidate will possess experience leading high-performing teams through organizational change within a complex enterprise and will embody CMU’s values of collaboration, creativity, empathy and compassion, inclusion, and integrity among others. Additionally, this leader will bring broad and contemporary knowledge of all areas of human resources with a demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion and a reputation for being both service and employee centered. Prior experience in higher education is preferred. A bachelor’s degree is required with an advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred.
