Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine seek an accomplished physician leader with a collaborative spirit and growth mindset to serve as Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases within the Department of Medicine. The next Chief will guide the Division's continued growth across its clinical, research, education, and service missions while helping to shape the future of infectious diseases throughout Penn State Health.
The Chief will provide strategic leadership for a division with a substantial clinical footprint across the enterprise. The Division delivers more than 10,000 inpatient consults annually and over 4,000 outpatient visits each year while leading system-wide efforts in antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention, hospital epidemiology, employee health, HIV care, and outpatient antimicrobial therapy services. As Penn State Health continues to expand as an integrated and connected health care system, the Division is well-positioned to further strengthen its role as a leader in clinical quality, patient safety, and population health.
The Division offers a strong and growing research enterprise supported by nearly $3 million in active funding from federal, industry, and institutional sources. The faculty conduct research across a range of areas, including HIV, clinical trials, tick-borne and vector-borne diseases, infection prevention, and implementation science, while maintaining a strong record of scholarly productivity. With institutional support for physician-scientist recruitment and research growth, the Chief will have the opportunity to advance the Division's research portfolio, expand extramural funding, and foster collaboration across Penn State College of Medicine, Penn State Health, and the Pennsylvania State University more broadly.
Education remains central to the Division's mission. The Division oversees an established Infectious Diseases Fellowship and plays an active role in undergraduate and graduate medical education. The next Chief will build upon the Division's strong educational foundation by supporting innovative training programs, mentoring faculty and trainees, and enhancing the Division's contributions to the academic mission of the College of Medicine.
Candidates must possess an M.D., D.O., or equivalent degree; be board certified in Infectious Diseases and eligible for medical licensure in the applicable state; and qualify for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The successful candidate will have a distinguished record of academic achievement, including excellence in clinical care, research, education, and leadership within an academic medical center or integrated health system. This role is crafted for a nationally recognized academic infectious diseases leader who brings a record of excellence in clinical care, research, and education, along with the vision and leadership skills necessary to advance a diverse and multifaceted division.
