UK Biobank the world’s most important health research database, is seeking an experienced Director of Projects and Change to lead the successful delivery of complex, high-impact initiatives across the organisation. This role is pivotal in ensuring that strategic projects, from large-scale imaging programmes to transformational system enhancements, are delivered efficiently, on time, and with maximum impact.
In this senior leadership role, the Director will take ownership of UK Biobank’s change agenda, embedding a culture of continuous improvement and ensuring that projects enhance the quality of data, the efficiency of operations, and the experience of participants and researchers. With a diverse portfolio of programmes, including the continued delivery of the £97 million Imaging Programme, and inviting back the 500,000 participants for follow-up health data collection, the Director will be at the forefront of shaping the future of health data research.
Leading a multi-functional team of project professionals, radiographers, and health research assistants, the Director will oversee the development, prioritisation, and execution of UK Biobank’s project portfolio. Their ability to navigate complexity, manage competing priorities, and optimise resources will be critical to the organisation’s success. Working closely with cross-functional teams including IT, Communications, Legal, and Finance, the Director will ensure projects are delivered within budget, compliant with regulatory standards, and aligned with UK Biobank’s strategic vision.
A key element of the role will be implementing best-in-class project management methodologies and risk mitigation strategies. The Director will establish robust frameworks to track progress, assess feasibility, and manage risks, ensuring that UK Biobank continues to operate at the cutting edge of biomedical research. By fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including research partners and funders, the Director will ensure that programmes deliver tangible benefits to the global scientific community.
