The African School of Governance (ASG) is a newly established, independent, pan-African graduate professional school situated in Kigali, Rwanda, seeking to offer a unique blend of world-class public policy and leadership education, research, and policy engagement that embraces its distinctive African identity.
Established in 2024, ASG was born from the vision of African leaders seeking to cultivate the next generation of scholars, professionals and leaders. The school aims to equip individuals with the necessary skills and mindset to tackle the major governance challenges facing Africa and the world in the 21st century and beyond.
ASG endeavours to appoint an esteemed and ardent individual to become the Vice President for Academic Affairs. This person will provide strategic academic leadership and ensure the achievement of ASG’s mission to improve governance and sustainable development through education, research and policy engagement. They will ensure that the vision of ASG is translated into academic, research and executive education programs respectively.
The Vice President will oversee academic programs, research initiatives, faculty development and academic partnerships to ensure the institution’s relevance and impact. The role also requires close collaboration with policymakers, industry leaders and global think tanks to align ASG’s academic offerings with practical governance and policy challenges in Africa.
The successful candidate will bring to the school a track record of leadership in academic teaching and research, as well as education leadership and administration. This person will demonstrate a commitment to Africa and a mindset that is able to challenge established orthodoxies about development and governance in Africa, as well as bringing experience of Africa-specific academic research and teaching. Evidence of collaboration with, or influence on, senior policymakers in governments, the private sector and civil society would be an added advantage.
Individuals who are able to work fluidly in a start-up environment will excel in this position.
The position would require full, on campus presence in Kigali, Rwanda.
