Director of Policy Studies
African School of Governance
Kigali - Rwanda
The African School of Governance (ASG) is a newly established, independent, pan-African graduate professional school situated in Kigali, Rwanda, seeking to offer a unique blend of world-class public policy and leadership education, research, and policy engagement that embraces its distinctive African identity.
Established in 2024, ASG was born from the vision of African leaders seeking to cultivate the next generation of scholars, professionals and leaders. The school aims to equip individuals with the necessary skills and mindset to tackle the major governance challenges facing Africa and the world in the 21st century and beyond.
ASG is seeking a strategic, visionary leader to become the Director of Policy Studies. This person will lead and oversee the work of the four research centers (the Center for African History and Leadership, the Center for Home-Grown Innovations in Policy and Governance, the Center for Technology and Effective Delivery and the Center for Trade and Regional Integration), specifically in areas of research and policy engagements.
Dynamic and visionary, the Director of Policy Studies will bring to the school academic, research and policy commentary rigor, with significant leadership experience in academia and/or global think tanks. They will also demonstrate a record of public policy and governance research, publications and policy engagement through easily digestible and non-academic communication that appeals to broad policy, industry and lay audiences. Therefore, the school is seeking an experienced scholar to lead the directorate of policy studies, which focuses on research and policy engagement with industry.
This person will work at the nexus of academic and industry/policy, and practically understand policy-making and implementation in the African context. Evidence of collaboration with, or the ability to influence, senior policymakers in governments, the private sector and civil society would be an added advantage.
Individuals who are able to work fluidly in a start-up environment will excel in this position.
The position would require full, on campus presence in Kigali, Rwanda.
ASG values diversity and inclusion and is committed to the principles of equality, fairness, inclusivity and transparency in its recruitment processes. Career breaks or atypical career paths will be considered, and only personal merit and job-related criteria will determine selection.
