The African School of Governance (ASG) is a newly established, independent, pan-African graduate professional school situated in Kigali, Rwanda, seeking to offer a unique blend of world-class public policy and leadership education, research, and policy engagement that embraces its distinctive African identity.
Established in 2024, ASG was born from the vision of African leaders seeking to cultivate the next generation of scholars, professionals and leaders. The school aims to equip individuals with the necessary skills and mindset to tackle the major governance challenges facing Africa and the world in the 21st century and beyond.
ASG invites applications for the position of Professor or Associate Professor of African History. This role focuses on the intersections of African historical perspectives and governance and development. The course seeks to unpack African development history and governance history and case studies. The successful candidate will contribute to ASG’s mission of fostering leadership and critical thought to address Africa’s pressing governance challenges.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals, influential policy or popular journals that bring a knowledge of history to broad audiences, as well as book publications; demonstrated experience in teaching at the postgraduate level; proven ability to attract research funding and lead collaborative projects; and hold a PhD in African History.
Individuals who are able to work fluidly in a start-up environment will excel in this position.
The position would require full, on campus presence in Kigali, Rwanda.
