Vice President, Academic Affairs
Wellstar Health System
Marietta, GA - United States
Wellstar Health System seeks a visionary and dynamic executive to serve as their inaugural Vice President, Academic Affairs (VP). This is an exciting time to join a growing health system that is committed to developing and expanding its academic enterprise.
Wellstar Health System has grown tremendously over the last several years and is one of the largest and most integrated not-for-profit health systems in the state of Georgia. Wellstar is committed to health equity and eliminating health disparities and is one of the largest providers of uncompensated healthcare services in Georgia.
Reporting to the Chief Physician Executive, the Vice President Academic Affairs will be responsible for developing a comprehensive and integrated academic affairs office to create alignment and ensure a synergistic approach to learning and other major strategic objectives across the system. This is a newly created office that will oversee the following areas: Academic Affiliations and Partnerships, Interprofessional Education, Graduate Medical Education (GME), Undergraduate Medical Education (UME), Wellstar Research Institute (WRI), Library Services, Continuing Education and Simulation. The VP will build and enhance partnerships Wellstar has with academic institutions across the state. A recent partnership with Augusta University Health System, along with legacy partnerships with institutions like Kennesaw State University and Mercer, necessitate the development of an enterprise-wide outreach and communication plan to convey Wellstar’s priorities, resources and opportunities to support academic partners and enhance the academic enterprise across Wellstar. The VP will also help drive the continued success of Wellstar’s growing GME and UME programs.
Ideal candidates will have leadership experience in a complex environment, bringing to Wellstar an ability to influence change by demonstrating strong business acumen and creating genuine connections with colleagues. The VP will create innovative talent acquisition strategies to build key talent pipelines focused on clinical, non-clinical and innovate roles. The successful candidate will have experience building upon a solid foundation and bringing those key components together to create a consistent and systemized approach to an academic affairs office.
Candidates must have a terminal degree and a proven track record of leading administrative functions within a large academic health organization. The VP will organize and lead strategic assessment, gap analysis and benchmarking to support implementation of priorities and ensure alignment with academic partner priorities.
