Wellstar Health System and WittKieffer have partnered in the search for a Vice President, Chief Medical Officer (VP/CMO) for Wellstar Cobb Medical Center. Wellstar Health System is one of the largest and most integrated not-for-profit health systems in Georgia and is committed to health equity and eliminating health disparities. Wellstar Cobb Medical Center is a 382-bed acute care medical center that offers a full range of services, including emergency care, surgery, cancer care, women’s services, and a large ambulatory footprint. In addition, the Wellstar Cobb Medical Center has a Burn Program (one of only three in the state) and an inpatient behavioral health facility on their campus.
Reporting to the Hospital President with a matrix relationship to the EVP, Chief Physician Executive, this position is a leader of clinical initiatives aimed at improving quality, safety, patient, and physician and APP satisfaction while managing credentialing, peer review, length of stay, improving care coordination, and enhancing throughput. The VP/CMO will have leadership oversight of performance for patient care metrics, safety initiatives, quality and service excellence, physician and APP leadership development, physician and APP relations, implementation of clinical information systems, medical staff affairs support, and, in conjunction with the chief of staff, physician performance improvement, peer review, credentialing, and assisting with physician recruitment.
In collaboration with nursing leadership, the VP/CMO has responsibility for Care Coordination, which includes Utilization Management, Case Management, and Social Services. The position is directly responsible for the hospital’s Quality and Safety Division, which includes regulatory readiness, performance improvement, and
infection prevention. The VP/CMO has a liaison role with the Medical Staff Services and closely works with the Medical Staff Officers, Departmental Chairs, and Medical Staff Members. The overarching focus of the VP/CMO is to ensure world-class, patient-centric care.
The successful candidate will possess a minimum of seven to ten years of recent leadership experience in an acute care setting, including but not limited to service as a department chair, medical staff president, residency/fellowship program director, or similar. Previous experience as a CMO or ACMO is preferred. Candidates must possess an M.D. or D.O. degree with appropriate board certification. Candidates must also be eligible for a medical license in the state of Georgia.
