Hometown Health Centers is seeking a strategic, mission-driven, and inspiring leader to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). With the upcoming retirement of CEO Joe Gambino, who has served as CEO for over 17 years, the Board has launched a national search to find their next CEO. Located in Schenectady, New York, this 50-year-old Federally Qualified Health Center has been deeply committed to delivering high-quality, comprehensive healthcare and safety net services to the most vulnerable residents of the Capital Region of New York State, as well as comprehensive dental services to children and families all over the region.
The incoming CEO will report to the Board of Directors and lead Hometown Health’s strategic vision while ensuring operational excellence and fulfilling the organization’s mission. Working with the Board and executive management, the CEO will set long-term goals and policies. This leader will promote the health center’s mission, oversee operations including financial management and clinical care, and address social determinants of health in collaboration with local healthcare and nonprofit partners.
The CEO must engage with the community and invest time in understanding the talents and resources Hometown Health offers, ensuring they earn the trust and respect of staff and stakeholders. As the healthcare landscape continues to shift toward value-based care, the CEO will be responsible for enhancing sustainability through innovation, efficiency, and the development of a robust infrastructure to adapt to the demands of a dynamic industry. Key priorities include addressing workforce challenges, boosting employee engagement, and enhancing access to care in Hometown Health’s service area. The CEO should demonstrate strong financial stewardship and operational management, with experience in creating sustainable programs that meet community needs. Additionally, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and utilizing data-driven decision-making will be crucial for the new CEO.
The CEO must foster relationships with labor unions and partners while ensuring operational efficiency. This role requires a visible, inspirational leader who advocates Hometown Health’s mission and promotes equity and collaboration. The new CEO should develop a transformational vision, gain the team’s respect, prioritize value-based care, and emphasize data-driven decision-making. The total compensation range for this position is targeted at $275,000 to $350,000, commensurate with experience.
