Gillette Children’s seeks an experienced, self-actualized leader to serve as its next Executive Vice President of Operations and Chief Operations Officer. This critical role provides leadership and oversight for operations and service delivery across the organization. The opportunity should appeal to accomplished operational leaders drawn to a high-performing team in a strong and stable organization that offers an extraordinary mission, a cherished culture, and an exceptional reputation in the Twin Cities, across Minnesota, and beyond.
Gillette is known for excellence in serving complex pediatric patients, particularly in the areas of cerebral palsy, gait and motion analysis, pediatric orthopedics, pediatric neurology and neurosurgery, and pediatric rehabilitation medicine. The internationally recognized interdisciplinary care model is designed to address the specific needs of every child at once and is fueled by a culture and operating model that emphasizes communication, collaboration, and compassion. Gillette providers travel around the globe to speak at conferences, collaborate on research projects, and teach the next generation of medical professionals.
Gillette sees nearly 30,000 patients annually from throughout Minnesota, across the U.S., and worldwide. Gillette Children’s partners with leading pediatric Level I trauma centers to deliver comprehensive trauma care for children and teens. Through these collaborations, Gillette complements the acute trauma services of its partners by providing specialized pediatric expertise in neurosurgery, orthopedics, advanced rehabilitation, and a full spectrum of follow-up care. This integrated approach ensures that young patients across the region receive the highest level of care for complex and critical injuries. Gillette’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit holds a gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence, the highest honor given by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Additionally, Gillette is one of just eight pediatric specialty programs in the U.S. accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) to meet the needs of young children and adolescents seeking acute inpatient rehabilitation for brain injuries.
Leaders who thrive at Gillette are high on EQ and low on ego. They are open minded and intellectually curious—always seeking opportunities to improve and innovate—with strong critical thinking skills and “maze-bright” hardwiring to effectively lead in complex, dynamic environments. They are natural-born leaders and effective team players who bring focus and coordination to leverage Gillette’s brand, advance its reach, accelerate discoveries, and improve outcomes that will positively impact the lives of patients and their families. They are good listeners and problem solvers, highly skilled in their core areas of leadership responsibility, and capable of working across lanes to lead change and produce results. They are humble and empathetic, honest and ethical, highly visible and engaged, and personable and approachable. They are invested in the growth and development of their teams, and they create environments in which all feel valued and capable of doing their best work. They are fully aligned with the organization’s mission and values, and they contribute to its supportive and collaborative culture.
Beyond this baseline expectation regarding organizational fit, the successful candidate in this search will be committed to continuously driving and elevating care transformation, patient-centered value, and mission-driven growth. Pediatric experience is not required, but candidates must demonstrate an authentic connection to the unique needs of an independent, interdisciplinary, specialized children’s hospital and will embody the empathetic culture of a pediatric healthcare institution. The successful candidate will be a patient-focused, engaging, and visible leader who is equally adept at developing strategy (thinking and creating), implementing the work (doing and leading), and building productive relationships across the organization (partnering and collaborating). Building effective physician partnerships is a particularly important skill, given the unique, multi-disciplinary nature of the care delivery model. Gillette seeks a highly skilled, emotionally intelligent, and results-oriented leader with demonstrated success driving change and achieving positive outcomes. With a team of dedicated, mission-driven staff driving and supporting work across the organization, a leadership style focused on teamwork and collaboration is a must.
The EVP will be warmly welcomed by the organization and the broader community. The Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul offer affordable living, a diverse population, vibrant downtown amenities, unlimited recreational activities, excellent educational opportunities, and a thriving business community that includes world-renowned healthcare delivery, financing, innovation, and technology companies.
The annual salary range for this opportunity is $330,000/annually to $495,000/annually, with a median salary of $412,000/annually. Gillette supports career progression and offers a competitive benefits package, including a retirement saving match, tuition and certification reimbursement, paid time off, and health and wellness benefits for .5 FTE and above.
