Myrtue Medical Center (MMC), located in Harlan, Iowa, seeks a dynamic leader to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer. MMC has been providing healthcare to the residents of Shelby County for over 70 years, and during that time the community has benefited from strong and stable leadership. With the planned retirement of Barry Jacobsen, who has served MMC for 28 years and as CEO for the last 16 years, the organization is now seeking its next Chief Executive Officer. This is an excellent opportunity to provide strong leadership to a busy critical access facility in Southeast Iowa.
MMC, one of the leading employers in Shelby County, Iowa, is a successful, independent, 25-bed critical access hospital with approximately $57 million in net patient revenue. MMC’s services include five rural health clinics, behavioral health, community health, surgery, and specialty clinics. The hospital offers Level IV trauma care, physical and occupational therapy, diagnostic imaging, and more. MMC employs more than 35 providers including family practice, board-certified OB/GYN, an in-house surgeon, and behavioral health professionals. MMC also provides care in a wide range of specialties through 40 visiting providers.
Reporting directly to MMC’s Board of Trustees, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is charged with leading the organization and maintaining the strong momentum and focus on achieving excellence in service and clinical quality. The successful individual will have a proven record of working collaboratively with a Board of Trustees, in addition to building close working relationships with providers and staff. The CEO will communicate a clear vision and roadmap for the future, and inspire the Board, physicians, employees, and the community to collaboratively work toward that vision.
