Valley Health, located in Winchester, VA, seeks a dynamic, innovative leader to serve as the health system’s next Chief Human Resources Officer. As a key member of Valley Health’s 12-member executive leadership team, the CHRO will play an essential role in supporting the development and execution of Valley Health’s strategic plan and maintain responsibility for initiatives under the strategic pillar “Focus on our Caregivers”.
Valley Health is a nonprofit health system serving the healthcare needs of people in and around a thirteen-county region in Virginia and West Virginia. Through its six hospitals, Valley Health System brings together 644 licensed inpatient beds, over 100 outpatient sites of care, more than 6,000 employees, and a medical staff exceeding 750 professionals. Valley Health’s six hospitals include: Winchester Medical Center (flagship), Warren Memorial Hospital, Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Page Memorial Hospital and War Memorial Hospital, as well as a growing ambulatory footprint and physician enterprise.
In recent years, Valley Health has been on a been on a culture journey which now permeates all areas of organizational strategy, day-to-day operations and communication. The new CHRO will continue to foster a positive organizational culture that is connected to purpose and driven to excellence, centered around innovation and strong financial performance to enable Valley Health to remain independent while delivering its mission.
The new CHRO will have oversight of Valley Health’s people strategy and operations, overseeing the day-to-day aspects of human resources. They will have the responsibility for developing and executing human resources strategy in accordance with the Valley Health strategic plan across the spectrum of talent management, succession planning, change management, organizational and performance management, training and development and total rewards. The CHRO will be a strategic partner to the Valley Health leadership team and bring outcomes-oriented, contemporary approaches to HR delivery and operations across the system, including a focus on process optimization with Workday and leveraging analytics and new efficiencies. They will ensure a high-performing HR operation and maintain a customer-focused approach to HR partnership within the health system, including optimizing its current business partner model. As Valley Health continues to grow across the region, the CHRO will serve as a key senior leader supporting change management and organizational development needs across the organization.
This role requires a contemporary, engaging, forward-thinking leader who is focused on advancing a performance and metrics-driven approach to human resources. A minimum of ten years human resources leadership experience is required, preferably within an integrated health system. However, purpose-driven human resources leaders with diverse industry experience in complex, service-driven organizations are invited for consideration. This individual will be a skilled communicator with the ability to lead through influence, achieve buy-in, and work quickly and effectively while comfortably assimilating into the culture connected to purpose and living the mission and values of Valley Health.
This is a tremendous opportunity for an experienced, strategic human resource leader who will focus on optimizing HR processes and delivery while maintaining visibility and collaborative, trusting relationships at all levels of Valley Health. The next CHRO will succeed Liz Savage, who will be retiring and has served the health system as CHRO for the past 15 years.
