Founded in 1892, IC serves just under 5,000 students, 784 of whom compete for the Bombers in 28 varsity sports, the newest of which is women’s wrestling. An NCAA Division III institution, the Bombers are members of the Liberty League Conference, which they joined in 2017. Its wrestling team competes in the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference while its gymnastics program is a member of the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association. Men’s rowing is a long-standing member of the Intercollegiate Rowing Association. The Bombers have achieved the highest level of performance, capturing national championships in women’s rowing (2005, 2004), softball (2002), gymnastics (1998), wrestling (1994, 1990, 1989), football (1991, 1988, 1979), women’s soccer (1991, 1990), baseball (1988, 1980), and field hockey (1982). Throughout history, the Bombers have captured 177 men’s and 168 women’s conference championships. Ithaca College was ranked 30 out of 135 in the overall Fall 2024 Learfield Cup standings and first in those standings of its Liberty League peers.
Reporting directly to Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Life, the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports (AD) will take the reins of a nationally renowned program whose long tradition of competitive and academic success at the very highest levels has exemplified excellence across the entirety of Division III. They will join a strong team of committed leaders whose work shapes and forms the student experience, delivering an exemplary and transformative experience for all. The new director will provide leadership and strategic direction to the athletics enterprise that includes ten administrative staff, the departments of athletic training, strength and conditioning, the Office of Campus Recreation, and 28 varsity sports with their affiliated staff. The next AD will work to direct, coordinate, and administer a comprehensive intercollegiate athletics and recreational sport program, rooted in the values of performance excellence, intercampus collaboration, and holistic student success.
The successful candidate will hold an earned Master’s degree and have a minimum of eight years of related experience and a demonstrated ability to effectively manage a comprehensive intercollegiate athletics and recreational sports program at the college level.
