The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks an experienced, strategic, and collaborative leader to serve as Director of the DATA coordinating and Collaborative Research Unit (DATA CRU) in the School of Public Health.
Based in the Department of Biostatistics, DATA CRU provides data coordinating center (DCC) operations for longitudinal cohort studies and clinical trials.
As a senior member of the Biostatistics faculty and a strategic adviser to the Chair and the Dean, the next Director will guide DATA CRU’s strategic growth and direction, building on institutional strengths to position the School of Public Health and UAB for greater impact in clinical and translational research and on the health of individuals and communities regionally, nationally, and globally.
The Director will work with multidisciplinary investigators on the development and execution of new multicenter studies and coordinate resources among existing projects with principal investigators, staff leaders, and faculty co-investigators. Ultimately responsible for DCC operations, the Director oversees a team of more than 40 research specialists, program managers, statisticians, and programmers.

The ideal Director candidate will have experience leading clinical trials and multicenter studies, a record of successful collaboration with clinical researchers and stakeholders across disciplines, strong operational acumen, and expertise in applied statistical methods.
An earned doctoral degree in biostatistics or a related discipline and a minimum of five years of experience in clinical or biostatistical research are required. The successful candidate must have a record of scholarship, teaching, and service to warrant appointment as a tenured or tenure-earning professor or associate professor at UAB.
