This is an exciting opportunity to be a key contributor to Indiana University’s (IU) philanthropic endeavors to create a vibrant campus community.
Tracing its roots back to 1820, IU has evolved into an influential educational institution, with flagship campuses at IU Bloomington and IU Indianapolis. The University’s global impact is evident in its rich legacy of academic and artistic achievements, including ten Nobel Prizes and 23 Pulitzer Prizes, and an extensive alumni network exceeding 760,000 individuals.
In partnership with IU, the Foundation is instrumental in mobilizing philanthropic contributions that benefit students, faculty, and the University’s campuses. Guided by the strategic direction of IU2030, the Foundation’s initiatives are centered on enhancing student scholarships, advancing groundbreaking research, and contributing to the welfare of the state and the wider community.
Reporting to the Executive Vice President for Finance & Business Operations (EVP), the VP will be instrumental in shaping the Foundation’s financial strategies, governance, and compliance framework. The VP will manage critical areas such as financial planning, investment accounting, tax compliance, risk management, and audit oversight, ensuring the highest fiscal responsibility and efficiency standards. They will oversee a team of approximately 17 individuals, including five direct reports.
This executive role requires a visionary leader with deep financial expertise, business acumen, and an understanding of technology’s role in financial operations. The successful candidate will bring experience in strategic financial planning, treasury management, compliance, and process optimization within complex organizations. Additionally, the VP must possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration across departments and mentoring future finance leaders.
This is an onsite role based in either the Bloomington or Indianapolis, IN, office with a regular presence in Bloomington.
The successful VP candidate will:
- Assist the EVP in developing financial business plans and forecasts that support the organization’s mission and goals, maximizing its operating performance, and achieving its financial goals.
- Oversee all financial accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to lead compliance efforts with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), tax, and regulatory requirements.
- Serve as an in-house compliance expert, analyzing and interpreting FASB, IRS, UPMIFA, and other regulatory directives to propose changes to improve or enhance current financial practices.
- Develop and implement financial policies and accounting controls to safeguard organizational assets.
- Create and monitor department budget, aligning work across the department.
- Monitor cash flow positions and borrowing, ensuring sufficient funds are available to meet ongoing operational and investment requirements.
The ideal candidate has extensive finance experience and a history of growing responsibility. They should have a strong track record in financial strategy, budgeting, and leading business operations in a complex organization. A bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting, is required, while an MBA is desired. A CPA is required.
