Vice President of Administrative Services
Weber State University
Ogden, UT - United States
Weber State University – a regional public institution with 32,701 students and nestled at the foot of the scenic Wasatch Mountains, forty miles north of Salt Lake City, Utah – is seeking an accomplished and passionate leader to become its next Vice President of Administrative Services (VPAS).
Founded in 1889, Weber State University (WSU) is proud of its beautiful 490-acre suburban campus with state-of-the-art buildings and a focus on sustainability. WSU competes in the Big Sky Conference with 14 NCAA Division I sports. As an open admission institution, WSU lives and breathes its core themes to promote “Access, Learning, and Community,” and emphasizes undergraduate education at both the associate and bachelor’s degree levels in liberal arts, sciences, technical, and professional fields, offering the largest and most comprehensive undergraduate programs in Utah. The vibrant local city of Ogden, Utah is home to more than 84,000 residents and has earned a national reputation for being one of the “best places to live,” one of the “best places to do business,” a place with a “stable economy and high ethics from its work force” and a “playground for adrenaline junkies.”
WSU is looking for a seasoned leader who will continue their traditions of excellence in campus planning and athletics while also leading and managing the additional areas of administrative services that support the smooth functioning of the institution so that it can best serve students: Finance, Facilities Management, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Public Safety. The new VPAS will lead, inspire, and motivate this large and broad team of dedicated staff, including seven direct reports, while supporting strong divisional partnerships that ensures the group’s cohesion, integration, and high level of performance. Each area operates with values and principles that emphasize teamwork and integrity and focus on quality assurance that make a significant contribution to the University and its student service mission. The new VPAS will understand this core mission of student success in all planning and decision-making as they analyze data and performance on potential areas of improvement, implement cost-saving measures to maximize efficiencies, conduct forecasting and risk assessment, and ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations.
Reporting directly to the President, Dr. Brad Mortensen, the VPAS is cabinet-level position and the chief advisor on budget and financial matters with responsibility and general oversight of the administrative and finance functions for the fiscal management of the university’s resources. In an environment of impending state budget cuts and other changes in revenue sources, the VPAS will ensure that Weber State takes all necessary steps to remain financially strong while still fully invested in providing access and affordability to its students. The VPAS will provide care and concern in stewarding the physical plant infrastructure and protecting the university’s assets, including its human, financial, physical, digital and data assets, to plan for a long-term financially sustainable future.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated, progressive experience and expertise in areas such as finance, budgeting, facilities management, campus planning, capital construction, and/or educational administration. Demonstrated success at providing executive-level leadership and experience overseeing complex financial and organizational operations at a public higher education institution is preferred. A master’s degree is required; a doctoral degree is preferred.
