Yale School of Medicine (YSM), located in New Haven, CT, seeks a dynamic, distinguished executive to serve as its next Executive Director for Business Administration and Strategic Initiatives. This is a unique leadership opportunity at one of the most respected academic institutions in the world.
Reporting to the Deputy Dean for YSM Finance & Administration (F&A), this role will support the effective execution of YSM business operations across the full spectrum of strategic and administrative initiatives and functions.
The Executive Director will manage and facilitate key deliverables as identified by the Office of the Dean, supporting the Deputy Dean for Finance & Administration, to establish business administration priorities and support the execution of initiatives for YSM and Yale University (YU). As a strategic advisor to the Deputy Dean, this leader will collaborate with various partners across YSM, YU, and Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) to plan, facilitate, and manage the administration, operations, and interests of YSM on behalf of the Deputy Dean. Working primarily with the 18 clinical departments at YSM, this leader will ensure the alignment of YSM departments with the clinical enterprise, the medical school, and the health system to ensure the continued success of the academic and clinical missions. This role will be a key partner to the Office of Continuous Improvement, facilitating the identification, collaboration, and sometimes co-leading key initiatives for process improvements within business operations. The incumbent will have the responsibility to communicate key messages relating to administration and operations, often representing the Deputy Dean at critical forums. Lastly, this role will support and guide a team of Senior Directors/Directors of F&A, focusing on optimal performance in supporting the staff, faculty, department leadership, and partnerships within YSM, YNHHS, Yale Medicine Administration (YMA), and YU, advancing the medical school missions and operations.
The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree and ten years of progressively responsible experience, including five years in a leadership role within a large, complex academic health system environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred qualifications include an MBA, a master’s degree in healthcare administration, or an advanced degree, as well as experience in a large academic medical center or academic medical group practice. The candidate must have
excellent financial and analytical skills, with experience in preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial plans, and the ability to integrate multiple, complex financial elements to identify themes, trends, and issues.
Comprehensive knowledge of professional accounting principles and practices is essential.
