Vice President of Facilities
Johns Hopkins Health System
Baltimore, MD - United States
The Johns Hopkins Health System (JHHS) seeks a collaborative, strategic, and innovative engineer to serve as its next Vice President of Facilities Management (Vice President). This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-caliber team and one of the world’s leading health systems to provide strategic and operational leadership. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President for Facilities, the Vice President will serve as the deputy leader in the department, overseeing facilities management operations, clinical engineering, engineering and commissioning, and energy services (including two combined heat and power turbines with a 3rd CHP under construction). The Vice President serves as the on-the-ground leader, ensuring the needs of the community are met effectively.
In addition to operational responsibilities, the Vice President contributes significantly to the design and infrastructure of major projects. This includes reviewing drawings, gathering input, and integrating sustainability efforts into project plans. The role requires a broad portfolio of skills, including political savvy, rational decision-making based on data, and extensive knowledge of hospital codes and regulations. The Vice President must also be adept in clinical engineering, ensuring that programs are in place to track and maintain essential equipment.
The Vice President must be forward-leaning, efficient, and effective. This involves incorporating input from various stakeholders including nurses, doctors, and patients to ensure that the facilities meet their needs. Given the diverse nature of the hospitals within JHHS, ranging from a flagship 1,000-bed hospital to smaller facilities in Maryland and other locations, the Vice President must navigate the unique challenges and opportunities presented by each site. This includes managing deferred maintenance projects and contributing to the design of major infrastructure projects.
It’s an ideal time to join the organization as Johns Hopkins Health System has dynamic and transformative projects currently underway, and the Vice President will play a pivotal role in shaping the infrastructure. Looking ahead, the Vice President will play a crucial role in several upcoming initiatives, including the design and commissioning of a new $1B life sciences research building, the opening of a 56-bed Children’s hospital in Florida, and the execution of a sustainability plan for the health system. Upcoming projects include completion of a Master Facility Plan, sustainability planning, and a new tower at Bayview.
Johns Hopkins Health System has a prestigious reputation in healthcare, education, and research, and the Vice President of Facilities will join a stimulating and collaborative environment with opportunities for professional growth and impactful leadership. The ideal candidate will be an intelligent, confident, and analytical leader who is also a team player, capable of working collaboratively with colleagues and earning the respect of stakeholders. This role offers a unique opportunity to drive innovation and excellence in support of JHHS’s clinical, educational, and research missions.
