RWJBarnabas Health seeks a collaborative and distinguished physician leader to serve as the next Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset. Located in Somerville, New Jersey, RWJUH Somerset is a nationally accredited, 339-bed regional medical center providing a variety of comprehensive emergency, medical/surgical and rehabilitative services. The medical center’s 800-member medical staff represent all major medical and surgical specialties performing approximately 6,600 surgeries annually. The facility also includes the state-of-the-art Steeplechase Cancer Center which offers patients the newest available cancer treatments and clinical trials in partnership with Rutgers Cancer Institute. Also, in partnership with Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, the hospital is a teaching facility for a family medicine residency program of 21 residents.
The CMO for RWJUH Somerset will report directly to the medical center’s Chief Administrative Officer and maintain a matrixed reporting relationship to the System Executive Vice President, Chief Medical and Quality Officer. The CMO will drive the hospital’s safety and quality improvement efforts with the goal of achieving top clinical and patient-centered outcomes that set the standard in healthcare delivery and innovation.
The CMO is responsible for integration and coordination of clinical practice across all service line as well as the development and deployment of process improvement methods designed to enhance and improve clinical quality and patient experience while reducing healthcare costs. Bringing a level of accountability to the medical staff community will be a top priority.
The ideal candidate will bring significant, progressive leadership experience, strong business insight, a sophisticated knowledge of healthcare funding. They will have experience leading quality programs within an acute care facility and competitive marketplaces with the ability to make complex and difficult decisions. They will also demonstrate highly developed communication, influencing, and negotiation skills, particularly with physicians and executives. Candidates must possess an MD or DO degree with appropriate board certification. Candidates must also be eligible for a medical license in the state of New Jersey and maintain eligibility for a faculty position in RWJMS. The medical license transfer process must be initiated prior to employment start with the organization. An advanced degree in business administration, health administration, or similar is preferred.
