Chief Executive Officer
Blythedale Children's Hospital
Valhalla, NY - United States
Blythedale Children’s Hospital has launched a national search to identify its next President and CEO. This follows the announcement of current CEO, Larry Levine, who, after more than 25 years in the role, plans to retire at the end of 2025. Under Mr. Levine’s leadership, the organization built a replacement hospital, strengthened its financial position, expanded into long-term care, and completed several expansion and renovation projects. This is a once-in-a-career opportunity to lead the only independent specialty children’s hospital in New York dedicated to the care and treatment of medically complex and medically fragile children.
Blythedale has nearly 500 employees, an annual revenue of $110 million, and a strong balance sheet, with a modest amount of indebtedness and over $160 million of cash and long-term investments. The campus includes a 94-bed hospital, a 24-bed long-term care facility, and a day hospital that typically serves over 100 children. The organization’s stability affords the opportunity to invest in the future, and the next CEO will have flexibility to evaluate and advance strategic growth initiatives that position Blythedale to help improve the lives of more children with complex medical and rehabilitation needs. Over 90% of the inpatient children return home to their families and communities. Blythedale also has an independent public school district attached to the hospital, which provides educational opportunities to their inpatient and outpatient children.
The next CEO will be a humble, engaging, mission-driven leader who embodies the kind, collaborative, and compassionate culture of the hospital. Experience in pediatric healthcare—ideally across inpatient, outpatient, and post-acute settings—is desired, as is the ability to provide effective leadership across a wide range of stakeholder groups, including referring institutions, philanthropic communities, and state and federal government. Relevant experiences include working with a board, effectively partnering with clinicians to deliver cutting-edge, high-quality care, leading strategic growth initiatives, and successfully managing a team through accountable, disciplined leadership that produces positive results.
