Boston, Massachusetts – Massachusetts General Brigham Hospitals (MGB) have partnered with WittKieffer to identify their next Chair of Ophthalmology who will also serve as Chair of Ophthalmology for the renowned Massachusetts Eye and Ear Institute (MEE). The Chair also works closely with the Dean of Harvard Medical School (HMS) in serving as Chair of the HMS Clinical Academic department and oversees all HMS Ophthalmology academic programs, training, faculty recruitment, faculty appointment, and development, working across all HMS affiliates (e.g., Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Children’s Hospital). These storied institutions seek a dynamic and distinguished academic leader with a record of accomplishments in clinical practice, research, education, and administration to lead the Ophthalmology enterprise.

Harvard Ophthalmology is one of the leading and largest academic departments of ophthalmology in the nation. More than 350 full-time faculty and trainees work at nine HMS affiliate institutions, including MEE, Schepens Eye Research Institute of MEE, MGB, Boston Children’s Hospital, Beth Isreal Deaconess Medical Center, Joslin Diabetes Center/Beetham Eye Institute, VA Boston Healthcare System, VA Maine Healthcare System, and Cambridge Health Alliance.
MEE is an international center for treatment and home to the world’s largest vision and hearing research centers. MEE is a member of MGB and a teaching hospital of HMS. Internationally acclaimed since its founding in 1824, Mass Eye and Ear clinicians are driven by a mission to find cures for blindness, deafness and diseases of the head and neck.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding academic leader, respected researcher and clinician with demonstrated ability to inspire, manage and mentor the future of the field. This physician leader will be an individual who has a passion for providing excellent care, a desire to improve systems and processes to maximize efficiency, and organizational skill to engage faculty to achieve the Department’s objectives. The Chair must also demonstrate an ability to work within a complex academic environment and collaborate with leaders across MGB, HMS, and MEE. The selected candidate will be a Professor or Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, commensurate with qualifications and academic accomplishments.
