Mary Washington Healthcare (MWHC), based in Fredericksburg, VA, seeks a growth-minded physician leader to serve as its next Senior Vice President, Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Reporting to the President and CEO of MWHC, this leader will have the unique opportunity to execute key strategies for the system and lead the clinical operations for one of Virginia’s most high-performing healthcare organizations. This position offers the opportunity to optimize a cohesive team in a growing, financially stable regional health system focused on high reliability and the delivery of high-quality, safe, accessible, and cost-effective care. With approximately $1.2 billion in total operating revenues, the organization has a strong market position in a growing region and has historically realized positive operating results. MWHC is an independent not-for-profit community health system consisting of Mary Washington Hospital, Stafford Hospital, Mary Washington Medical Group, Mary Washington Hospital Foundation, Stafford Hospital Foundation, Mary Washington Health Alliance, Mary Washington Hospice, MediCorp Properties, Inc. and joint ventures including Medical Imaging of Fredericksburg facilities and the Fredericksburg Ambulatory Surgery Center. MWHC is a shareholder of Vizient. More than 47 medical specialties and 850+ area physicians and allied health professionals are represented on the medical staff.
MWHC seeks a leader with expertise in building clinical programs, optimizing medical staff services, and growing graduate medical education offerings. The CMO will advance the clinical enterprise while listening and establishing trusting relationships and common ground with employees and providers. Mary Washington is investing substantially in its graduate medical education footprint – this leader will have a clear impact in advancing plans and strategies. Included within the $90-plus million 2025 capital budget is a new conference center, simulation lab and other components to advance MWHC’s strategic plans with building upon GME.
The CMO will be a physician leader with clinical credibility committed to high-quality healthcare delivery and fostering integration and cohesiveness at Mary Washington Healthcare. A Doctor of Medicine degree is required (MD/DO) and completion of a postgraduate medical education in an accredited residency program with current Board Certification. Previous experience in an administrative capacity as a Vice President of Medical Affairs, CMO, or other relevant clinical leadership roles is highly preferred.
