University of Kansas Medical Center (KU Medical Center) seeks a dynamic, high-performing leader to serve as its Associate Vice Chancellor and Deputy Chief Information Officer (AVC/DCIO). This is a unique opportunity to lead IT strategy and operations at a premier health sciences center that has been a destination of distinction in health education and research. The new AVC/DCIO will work collaboratively with the medical center leadership team to assist in delivering upon the vision to improve lives and communities in Kansas and beyond through partnership and innovation in education, research and health care.
KU Medical Center consists of three schools: University of Kansas School of Health Professions, School of Medicine and School of Nursing. The AVC/DCIO will report to the Chief Information Officer of the University of Kansas Health System and University of Kansas Medical Center for all strategic, financial, and project related activities. As a pivotal leadership role, the AVC/DCIO aims to establish a robust IT organization that prioritizes building a “people-first” approach culture. This involves implementing standardized IT performance, processes, and experiences, as well as organizing, integrating, and standardizing educational and research technology to effectively support faculty, students, and researchers across multiple campuses.
This role will enable delivery of IT services that meet the unique goals and extraordinary diversity of KU Medical Center’s academic and research mission that aligns with the clinical and patient care mission. The role will be instrumental in implementing and maintaining secure digital learning and research tools and technologies, and provide strategic guidance, oversee day-to-day operations, and contribute to the long-term vision for the information technology operation in the organization. The role will be integral in leveraging standardization and automation capabilities to enable scalability of technology systems with which to create value and meet current and future needs as an integrated academic medical center and health system.
The AVC/DCIO will be a humble, driven, innovative IT leader with demonstrated success working in healthcare delivery, academic medical center, and/or research university. The ideal candidate will be a high-functioning leader with strong communication skills who can create a future-facing technology environment that effectively supports the mission and goals of KU Medical Center that is in close alignment with the clinical enterprise. The AVC/DCIO will possess a comprehensive understanding of both technical and business aspects, as well as the ability to navigate highly regulated compliance environments effectively. The successful candidate will be a collaborative partner with high emotional intelligence who can engage others and build positive relationships. The AVC/DCIO will have the ability to adapt and lead change effectively in an evolving institution.
