Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community (VMRC) is seeking a collaborative, mission-driven and experienced operational leader to serve as its next Chief Operating Officer (COO). Located in Harrisonburg, Virginia this is an exciting time to join a Christ-centered community that cultivates compassion, integrity and respect for aging well and living fully.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the COO will serve as the senior executive responsible for all operational activities related to VMRC. This leader will work in conjunction with the CEO and the leadership team to develop operational goals related to occupancy growth, quality, and service-excellence. The new COO’s priorities include supporting VMRC’s mission and values, prioritizing resident engagement, operational efficiency and the delivery of superb care and innovative programming.

The organization has $34 million in operating revenues and $107 million in assets, offering independent living, assisted living, nursing and memory care services to over 750 residents with a dedicated staff of over 400 individuals.
The ideal candidate for the COO role will exhibit a strong commitment to the mission, and have significant experience in a Lifeplan, CCRC or a related senior care environment with a focus on operations, strategy and hospitality. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator capable of strategic thinking, with the ability to create alignment across the organization and build strong relationships with VMRC’s CEO, residents, staff and the leadership team. Experience building and leading high-performing teams is essential for the role. An undergraduate degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field is required; a graduate degree is preferred. Current Nursing Home Administrator license in the state of Virginia of the ability to obtain such license is preferred, but not required.
