Avera Health Plans in Sioux Falls, South Dakota has retained WittKieffer to assist in their search for a new Chief Operating Officer (COO). Avera Health Plans is a provider sponsored plan that is wholly owned by Avera Health, which is a successful, integrated health system based in Sioux Falls, SD. Avera Health has 300 locations, and it has the strongest brand in the region, a diverse provider network, and is located in geography that is poised to grow.

As part of the dedication to provide care and services to those in need, Avera Health Plans has participated in healthcare.gov since it began in 2014, after the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
This executive will have responsibility for providing operational leadership to support AHP growth in new products, markets, members, as well as help Avera Health Plans achieve its overarching goal of seamless integration with Avera Health and its providers. The COO will provide leadership, direction, and support for the major core operational functions: operations, claims, plan structure and integrity, customer experience. The COO will design, plan, and implement business strategies, plans, and procedures with an overall responsibility for the implementation of operational aspects to achieve organizational success. This leader will help to create seamless member experience while implementing a new claims system (Tapestry).
The COO reports to the Chief Executive Officer Avera Health Plans. We seek a proven track record in operations management experience (10 to 15 years) within a complex, healthcare payer organization – with familiarity and knowledge of individual and family, employer, duals and Medicare supplemental plans – is critical to the success of the new COO. Experience gained in a provider owned health plan is desirable. A bachelor’s degree is required, while an advanced degree in Public Health, Medicine, Nursing, Social Work, Business and/or Law is highly desirable.
