Vice Provost, Extension and Engagement
Oregon State University
Corvallis, OR - United States
WittKieffer is proud to partner with Oregon State University (OSU) as they seek a strategic and experienced leader for the role of Vice Provost for Extension and Engagement and Director of the OSU Extension Service (VPEE). This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic community of faculty, staff, and students at one of the nation’s leading research universities.
Oregon State University serves over 38,000 students with more than 5,000 faculty and staff, including the fast-growing OSU Ecampus, which has ranked as a top 10 online program nationally by U.S. News & World Report for 10 consecutive years. With more NSF funding than all other Oregon comprehensive universities combined, OSU is one of only three institutions in the United States to hold land, sea, space, and sun grant designations, and it is Oregon’s only institution to hold both the Carnegie R1 (very research-intensive) designation and the Carnegie Community Engagement classification. Through its Corvallis and Bend campuses, a leading marine science center in Newport, downtown facility in Portland, agricultural research experiment stations, Extension offices, and research forests, OSU has a presence in all 36 Oregon counties.
Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President, the VPEE is charged with providing leadership of Oregon State’s enterprise-wide vision and strategy in extension and public engagement, whether through programming that is situated within the Division of Extension and Engagement and the OSU Extension Service, or that is occurring in the colleges and other units across OSU. The VPEE collaborates with deans and other relevant university leaders to help advance colleges and other units’ success in engagement and connects with statewide advisory groups to identify issues to which university resources may be directed. As Director of the OSU Extension Service, the VPEE works closely with the deans of Agricultural Sciences, Forestry, and Health, the director of Oregon Sea Grant, and OSU’s Office of Government Relations to steward state and federal legislative relationships and advocate for the biennial state budget for the Statewide Public Services. The VPEE serves as the federally designated director of Smith-Lever capacity fund appropriations.
All applications, nominations, and inquiries are invited. Applications should include, as two separate documents, a CV or resume and a letter of interest addressing the themes in the leadership profile. While interviews for the next Vice Provost may be conducted prior to this date, applications should be submitted no later than January 31, 2025.
