Lexington, Kentucky – The University of Kentucky (UK) College of Medicine invites nominations, inquiries, and applications for the position of Chair to lead the Department of Psychiatry. This is an outstanding opportunity to expand psychiatric services as part of a rapidly growing health system and to substantially build upon a strong teaching and research foundation.
The College of Medicine is one of seven health-related colleges at the University (Dentistry, Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, and Social Work), encompassing a combined 25 basic science and clinical departments and more than 2,200 full time, part-time, and voluntary faculty members.
The Department of Psychiatry is a continually growing department and has a strong presence at UK HealthCare (UKHC). The department is comprised of over 44 faculty, 33 advanced practice providers (APPs), 17 behavioral health counselors, and 15 administrative staff members. In addition, the department offers four fully accredited residency programs and an ACGME fellowship in psychiatry – addiction medicine. The department currently has 13 active principal investigator lead research studies as well as nine additional projects as a co-principal investigator.
Reporting to the Dean of the UK College of Medicine, the Chair will make vital contributions to implementing the organization’s most critical strategies and will strive to achieve excellence in a full range of quality measurements. The chair will be directly involved with strategic planning and service development as well as market development and outreach strategy. Planning for future growth and recruitment to accomplish department goals will be integral to the duties of the chair.
The next Chair will be a nationally prominent, visionary leader and role model with an established record of excellence in clinical care and education, research, and mentorship in psychiatry. Exceptional accomplishments as a clinician and academician are a must as the Chair’s duties will include a clinical practice as well as ongoing academic activities.
Applicants must have a M.D., D.O, M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent degree, be American Board certified in psychiatry, and be eligible for medical licensure in Kentucky. In addition, applicants must possess outstanding leadership skills and administrative experience obtained in a medical school or an academic medical center setting, preferably as a department Chair, Division Chief, or Program Director, and possess a solid track record of commitment to clinical care, education, and research.
