WittKieffer and UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital (UHS CMH) have partnered in the national search for a President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This is an exciting opportunity to lead a highly regarded and successful organization that is well-positioned strategically, clinically, and financially to advance its important mission as a high-quality hospital serving Norwich, NY and Chenango County.
A member of United Health Services (UHS), a not-for-profit health system based in Binghamton, NY, UHS CMH is a 54-bed facility with approximately $100M in annual net patient revenue. The hospital includes inpatient and outpatient surgical care units, a women’s health center, and a maternity and obstetrics unit. It also staffs an intensive care unit, general surgery, cardiology, diagnostic heart care center, orthopedics, diagnostic imagining and laboratory department, as well as a 24-hour physician-staffed emergency care department. The hospital has more than 400 employees, making it one of the largest employers in the county. The hospital’s historical positive bottom-line is driven by a culture of putting patient’s first and maintaining financial diligence. UHS has committed approximately $90M in capital to support a variety of facility upgrades and growth-related initiatives at UHS CMH, and the next CEO will have substantial oversight and impact in advancing these goals.
UHS is a regional healthcare delivery system consisting of healthcare providers and supporting organizations, primarily serving New York’s Southern Tier and surrounding areas. UHS providers are geographically dispersed through Broome, Tioga, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, and Tompkins counties. UHS is the largest healthcare system and private employer in the Greater Binghamton region, employing approximately 6,500 employees and serving over 600,000 residents.
As UHS CMH continues to provide and transform healthcare for Norwich and all of Chenango County, the CEO will report to and collaborate with the Chief Operating Officer of UHS, as well as the health system’s Board of Directors to develop and oversee the organization’s long-term vision and strategy. The next CEO will be a strategic, collaborative, engaging leader who will provide effective leadership in further advancing efficient, high-quality healthcare to the community, while leveraging resources and relationships from UHS. This leader must effectively champion UHS CMH’s interests and constructively work with UHS colleagues to leverage integrated efficiencies, and to advocate for how UHS’ strategy incorporates the needs of UHS CMH to optimally serve the community. The CEO must have a track record of engaging staff at all levels of the organization and further cultivating an environment of openness, trust, and collaboration. Additionally, the CEO should be viewed as a leader in the community and as the face of UHS CMH. The CEO will be charged with developing a variety of external relationships at the local, state, and regional levels to advance the hospital’s reputation and status with key stakeholders.
The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 10 years of executive leadership experience in a hospital, with a track record of success achieving strong operational, financial, and strategic performance. The CEO will be a strong communicator and relationship builder and have extensive experience partnering with team members. The next CEO must be viewed as a highly visible, engaged community leader and understand and represent the importance of the health system’s relationship as part of the local community, and in the context of a collaborative, growing, and progressive regional health system. The expected base salary range is $275,000 to $336,000. The role is also eligible for an annual performance incentive.
