Orange County, CA- UCI Health seeks a transformational and experienced physician leader who is passionate about quality and safety to serve as its inaugural Chief Quality Officer (CQO) and Vice President. This is a unique opportunity to lead in a best-in-class integrated academic health system caring for Californians across the state. The CQO will be the catalyst to lead a focus on quality and safety and will strive to instill a culture of clinical excellence across UCI Health.

The System includes the flagship hospital – UCI Medical Center -Orange, a 459-bed trauma Level I academic medical center, recognized as a top 10 academic medical center by Vizient.
UCI Health is on a journey of expansion, set to complete its new $1.3 billion medical campus, UCI Medical Center – Irvine, which includes state-of the-art outpatient facilities and a 144-bed all-electric hospital, by 2025. In addition to the new campus, UCI Health completed its acquisition of Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, Lakewood Regional Medical Center, Los Alamitos Medical Center, Placentia-Linda Hospital, and associated outpatient locations in March of 2024.
Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President, the CQO will lead the charge to drive exceptional health outcomes across the six-hospital healthcare system, aligning clinical priorities with strategic, operational, and financial priorities. This leader will be responsible for advancing outcomes in community and academic settings. The CQO will be an example in leading with commitment to quality and safety and will instill a culture of clinical excellence across the system, serving to standardize clinical care throughout the enterprise. They will be responsible for building a strategic direction while leading and implementing programs and initiatives driving towards care consistency.
The successful candidate should be recognized as a standard-bearer for quality and patient safety, possessing deep understanding and training in enhancing clinical quality and patient safety. Candidates must hold a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree (or equivalent), have completed an ACGME-approved residency program and possess current Board Certification with an expectation to acquire a California medical license. Although not mandatory, an advanced degree in healthcare management, quality improvement or a business-related field is desired.
