Renown Health, headquartered in Reno, Nevada, is seeking a dynamic, ambitious physician leader with a strong quality focus to serve as its next Vice President, Medical Affairs and Division Chief Hospitalists (VPMA/DCH) at its flagship 826-bed Level II Trauma Center, Renown Regional Medical Center, and to lead the system’s hospitalist program.
Renown Regional Medical Center generates $1.1 billion of Renown’s total system net revenue of $1.8 billion. Renown Health is a fully integrated health system that includes three hospitals (Renown Regional Medical Center, which includes the Children’s Hospital, South Meadows Medical Center, and Renown Rehabilitation Hospital); three major clinical institutes for heart and vascular health, neurosciences, and cancer care; the Renown Medical Group and the clinically integrated network of the Western Clinical Alliance; and the Hometown Health insurance plan. Renown is the state’s most trusted and preferred health system and the #1 hospital in Nevada based on rankings by U.S. News & World Report for the past three consecutive years. Renown has an affiliation with the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med), a partnership that continues to deepen and exemplify a mutual commitment to teaching the next generation of physicians.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of Renown Regional Medical Center and the Chair of Internal Medicine, the VP, Medical Affairs and Division Chief Hospitalists for Renown Regional Medical Center serves as an integral member of the senior leadership team and drives clinical excellence, care delivery, and a connected physician community consisting of employed and private practice physicians. This leader will be responsible for coordinating the care of the medical staff to provide excellent, compassionate care. Part of this planning includes creating a platform for care consistency, a strategic direction, and constructive channels for communication between medical staff and administration in conjunction with the system CMO, the CEO of Renown Regional, and the local leadership team. The VPMA/DCH will also have responsibility for the Hospitalists practice across the health system, a practice consisting of almost 80 providers currently. They will optimize the practice, support and drive efficiency initiatives, in alignment with the strategic goals of Renown Health.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned physician leader—ideally with experience at the level of CMO, Associate CMO, or VPMA/DCH —who had 10 or more years of service practicing medicine prior to entering administrative roles. This person must bring the highest level of integrity to the role, along with a deep knowledge of clinical practice, operational execution, and the business of healthcare. This leader must clearly and comfortably communicate with physicians of various backgrounds and administrators at all levels. They will have strong orientation for data and metric driven approaches to quality, patient safety, and clinical operations with the ability to track and measure performance against benchmarks. The VPMA/DCH will have an exemplary track record of successful collaborative work with physicians. To ensure success, Renown requires a leader with exemplary interpersonal skills who will be viewed as a highly trustworthy, credible, fair, and approachable individual.
