Kansas State University (K-State) seeks a strategic, collaborative, and inspiring leader to serve as its next Talent and Organizational Development Director (T&OD Director). K-State is the first operational land-grant university in the country that has grown into a Tier 1 research university serving more than 20,000 students, 1,367 faculty members, and 3,068 full-time staff members across its three-campus system. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Talent Strategy & Engagement, the T&OD Director plays a pivotal role in shaping the talent strategy and organizational growth for both Human Resources and the K-State workforce while also impacting the overall employee experience. The T&OD Director serves as a key member of the HR leadership team, manages the Talent and Organizational Development team, and will direct the design and execution of a comprehensive talent and organizational development strategy.
In this role, the T&OD Director will:
- Create and implement an institutional professional development strategic plan, utilizing needs assessments and other methodologies.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to develop and oversee a broad array of professional development programs, including supervisory and leadership training, HR-related initiatives, orientation, and mentoring programs aimed at fostering belonging and enhancing employee engagement, retention, and organizational effectiveness.
- Represent HR on various committees and task forces, where the director’s expertise and authority will be highly regarded by university leadership and other stakeholders.
- Build recognition programs and workforce teams to celebrate accomplishments and promote a positive work-life balance.
- Prepare the workforce for organizational changes and operational excellence through change management initiatives and technology training.
- Lead the talent and organizational development team, managing resources, supervising and developing team members.
Successful candidates will have a bachelor’s degree and at least five (5) years of progressive and relevant experience. Experience with higher education institutions is preferred as is SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR, or ATD certification.
