St. Tammany Health System (STHS) seeks an authentic, dynamic, distinguished executive to serve as its next Chief Operating Officer (COO). The position is open due to the retirement of Sharon Toups, who served as COO for 24 years. The COO will report to and partner with the CEO, Joan Coffman, as well as partner closely with the Board of Commissioners and executive colleagues to continue the system’s 70-year record of success. The COO will be responsible for unifying and coordinating efforts across STHS to advance the integration of operations and services. In addition to ensuring greater optimization of current system-wide initiatives, broader areas of focus for the position include the identification and achievement of clinical quality; operational and financial goals for the system; optimization of the shared administrative services, and integration of hospital operations to embrace quality of service, access, and efficiency. The COO will also champion initiatives that further differentiate STHS as a progressive employer of choice, supporting initiatives that enhance colleague engagement, wellbeing and loyalty. In close partnership with the executive colleagues, the COO will support STHS’s strategic planning efforts designed to improve quality and patient safety, expand access to care, reduce costs, grow, manage real estate/construction, and diversify sources of revenue.
The selected COO will be an inspirational leader who can quickly build credibility among staff and embraces the mission and culture of STHS. The chosen COO will be a results-oriented leader with exceptional relationship building skills. STHS requires an engaging, strategic and accessible leader, who will inspire performance excellence. A graduate degree in business administration, healthcare administration, or a related field is required.
