Meritus Medical Center, the flagship facility of the health system, has more than 327 beds and is a Joint Commission accredited hospital. Meritus Medical Center is a growing teaching hospital, serving as a clinical training site for the Meritus Family Medicine Residency Program, several medical schools, and more than 1,000 nursing and allied health students annually. Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine will also be matriculating its first class of students in 2025. In the same year, it will also be welcoming its first class of General Surgery Residents and Psychiatry Residents.

The Chair of Surgery is responsible for the performance of all aspects of the clinical, educational, and research missions of the Department. The Chair will have the opportunity to lead the Department through innovative process design to increase market share in the pursuit of faculty efficiency across key mission areas. Those innovation efforts will also ensure that the Department provides the best experience for patients.
The Chair will lead a highly efficient, and patient-focused department that supports caregiver wellness. The successful candidate will possess exceptional relationship and team building skills, as well as bring an innovative systems approach to problem solving, consensus building, and advancing contemporary process improvement initiatives. An M.D. or D.O. degree and board certification in an appropriate surgical specialty, along with eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Maryland is required. Advanced leadership training and/or MBA is an asset. The successful candidate will also provide seven to ten years of significant leadership responsibility, including clinical operations and financial management; as well as a nuanced understanding of both ambulatory and hospital surgical operations.
