Duke Regional Hospital seeks a dynamic physician executive to serve as its next Chief Medical Officer (CMO). An integral part of Duke University Health System, Duke Regional Hospital has served Durham, Orange, Person, Granville, and Alamance counties and the surrounding communities for 45 years, and has grown to be a destination complex community hospital in the region. Duke Regional Hospital has 388 inpatient beds and offers a comprehensive range of medical, surgical, and diagnostic services, including orthopedics, weight loss surgery, women’s services, and heart and vascular services. For 2024-2025, U.S. News & World Report ranked Duke Regional Hospital as #9 in North Carolina and #4 in the Raleigh-Durham area.
As a key member of the Duke Regional Hospital senior leadership team, the CMO will work collaboratively to establish the overall direction and priorities for the hospital in enhancing the quality, safety, effectiveness and efficiency of healthcare delivery. The CMO will lead clinical initiatives aimed at improving patient services, quality and safety outcomes, demonstrably improve physician alignment and satisfaction, and lead evidence-based programs, practices and activities that deliver quality, service and financial results. This physician will represent Duke Regional Hospital on system-wide committees and various corporate initiatives. The CMO will spearhead efforts to enhance care within the organization, ensuring the highest standards of quality and patient outcomes.
The successful candidate will have an intimate knowledge of hospital operations and the ability to build strong relationships with community physicians, academic faculty and nursing professionals. They should possess technical expertise across various medical specialties and demonstrate proficiency in navigating the complexities of healthcare. As a forward-facing leader, they will approach their role with intentionality and leverage data analytics to drive meaningful changes in physician behavior. Moreover, they will recognize the value of cultivating effective relationships with multiple partners and stakeholders in a matrixed environment.
