San Francisco Bay Area – University of California Health (UC Health) and the Office of the President (UCOP) seek a collaborative, innovative, clinical leader to serve as the health system’s next Associate Vice President, Clinical Affairs and Chief Health Officer (CHO). UCOP, located in Oakland CA, is the University’s headquarters and champions a system of ten campuses, five medical centers and three affiliated national laboratories. UCOP supports campuses and students through systemwide funding and programs while managing the University’s multi-billion-dollar operations and investments. UCOP coordinates activities that allow a complex and unique system to operate efficiently as one university health system, furthering its public interest, academic, and research missions.
Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President of the UC Health System, Dr. David Rubin, the CHO is responsible for leading the optimization of quality, clinical integration, and population health across UC Health. As a member of the UCOP leadership team, the CHO will collaborate closely with system leadership, hospital leaders, physician leaders, and clinical staff across the system to further strengthen and ensure alignment of UC Health’s long-term quality, safety, and population health goals at all levels across the organization. The CHO will promote and instill a culture of continuous improvement by actively identifying opportunities to advance the health of the populations the system serves by improving the accessibility, efficiency, equity, and quality of clinical care delivered across the system. Additionally, the CHO will develop and implement policies and practices building on UC Health’s commitment to improve the health of the populations served including the student population.
Candidates must possess an in-depth knowledge of the complexities of planning and integrating programs, services, and operations in a large health system, and/or academic medical system, or complex organization. This executive will have the ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders including business development, finance, legal, compliance, human resources, operations, and academic affairs. Progressive experience as a senior-level leader that includes experience in clinical integration, performance improvement, and population health management with superb communication skills is required. Previous experience of payor strategies and emerging reimbursement models and knowledge of public payor models, including Medicare and Medi-Cal, is essential. Applicants must have an MD, PhD, DNP or other advanced degree in clinical or public health discipline.

This position can be hybrid or eligible for a remote work arrangement within the state of California. The selected candidate must reside within the state of California or be willing to relocate.
