University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is seeking a forward-thinking, transformational leader to serve as the Senior Director, Research Informatics. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead and advance research informatics in support of the strategic priorities of a highly regarded, regional academic health system.
The Senior Director will report directly to the Senior Vice President, Chief Innovation Officer, and will partner closely with other senior leaders across the organization and provide executive and strategic leadership to advance and maintain a robust informatics infrastructure that supports the clinical and translational research needs of research constituencies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, including the University of Maryland Institute for Health Computing and the University of Maryland Institute for Clinical and Translational Research.
The Senior Director will also provide oversight for the operational and administrative functions of the Research Informatics group including planning, program evaluation, policy and technical implementation. This is a crucial role and will be accountable for defining and delivering research data and technology strategy and prioritization as well as ensuring research technology infrastructure capabilities across the enterprise and supporting an engaged research community aligned with the mission of UMMS.
The Senior Director will integrate existing resources and develop new resources, infrastructure, and partnerships to provide an environment that enables innovation and synergy among interdisciplinary research teams and networks. Further, the Senior Director will manage the research data/informatics platform operations, provide thought leadership on research projects and industry collaborations and engage in the oversight and leadership of IRB-approved case-finding for study enrollment and cohort/case-control studies. The successful candidate will also engage in the design, build, support and maintenance of the research informatics platform in addition to trending the organization towards adoption of the OMOP common data model and established standards and ontologies. The role will collaborate with investigators on research projects, research grants, and industry partnerships.
The Senior Director will collaborate with investigators, faculty, clinicians, administrators, IT professionals, and trainees to create translational research impact through real-world data and clinical information systems. The Senior Director will be responsible for addressing the challenges researchers face in a data-intensive healthcare system. The successful candidate must have the ability to foster collaborative relationships with investigators across diverse backgrounds and disciplines, including public health and health outcomes research. A PhD in a relevant field or MD is preferred.
