Newport News, VA – Riverside Health System (RHS), a leading healthcare system in Newport News, Virginia, seeks a transformative and inspirational physician executive with a proven track record in clinical practice and leadership to serve as the Chief, Orthopedic Service Line. This is an exceptional opportunity for a mission driven physician leader to craft a vision for growth, diversify clinical program offerings, and expand the clinical services across the region.
RHS is a leader in Southeastern Virginia with a service area spanning 8,000 square miles. The health system has over 600 beds in four acute care locations and growing. RHS is anchored by Riverside Regional Medical Center (RRMC) in Newport News which is a comprehensive and Leapfrog “A” hospital. RRMC is the only hospital in the Peninsula to offer tertiary care through a Level II Trauma Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. As RHS expands its clinical geographic footprint, it is home to three community hospitals with a new hospital in Smithfield opening in 2026. In 2024, Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock earned recognition from Beckers Healthcare as one of the top “100 Great Community Hospitals.” The health system complements acute care facilities with three specialty hospitals, 110 Riverside Medical Group offices, over 700 providers in Riverside Medical Group, surgery centers, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home care, and more than 9,500 team members.
The Chief will promote excellence in a consistent multidisciplinary clinical care model across facilities with a commitment to timely access, coordination of care, and patient outcomes. The service line has built a strong reputation for quality and trauma across the region. The service line includes both surgical and non-surgical treatment options, creating personalized care plans to help patients return to active lifestyles. In addition to general orthopedic care, RHS offers specialized services in Total Joint Replacement, Sports Medicine, Trauma and Fracture Care, Shoulder and Elbow, Foot and Ankle, and Hand and Wrist treatment.
This physician leader will oversee nearly 35 physicians and advanced practice providers across 5 ambulatory locations and multiple hospitals. This leader will inspire and align the care team to develop the future vision, articulate a strategic plan, and align resources for its programs across the health system’s markets. The incoming Chief will have a thorough understanding and ability to work within a complex health system and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
