WittKieffer is partnering with Hospital for Special Care (HFSC) in New Britain, Connecticut, to assist in the recruitment efforts for their next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will manage quality and fiscal accountability to assure the long term success and evolving vision of the HFSC.
The CEO is accountable for the continued financial health, independence, growth, and adaptation of the System to meet the needs of the dynamic healthcare environment and marketplace. The CEO assembles and maintains the right team of leaders, professional, clinical, and administrative staff to achieve excellence in the delivery of core care and services. The CEO continually pursues new avenues for development and new streams of revenue, consistent with the mission, and to assure the longer-term sustainability of HFSC in a complex and ever-changing healthcare arena. The CEO leads an enterprise that is unique in the field and as such, has responsibility to set and uphold the standard for its sector of care. The CEO will also advocate on behalf of HFSC’s patient and families to ensure adequate Medicaid reimbursement is top of mind of elected officials.
Hospital for Special Care provides an acclaimed spectrum of medical treatment for complex rehabilitation and chronic disease for both children and adults augmented by a range of outpatient rehabilitative services. HFSC is financially strong and the fourth largest, free-standing long-term acute care hospital in the U.S. and one of only two in the nation serving both adults and children. Located in New Britain and Hartford, they operate on a not-for-profit basis. They are recognized for advanced care and rehabilitation in pulmonary care, acquired brain injury, medically-complex pediatrics, neuromuscular disorders, spinal cord injury, comprehensive heart failure, and comprehensive inpatient and outpatient treatment for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder. HFSC supports the practice of rehabilitation and continuing medical care through research and education. In addition, HFSC has been awarded the 2023 Top Workplaces USA award and has been named a top workplace for ten consecutive years.
Given the high performing characteristics of the organization and its culture, we are seeking a dynamic healthcare executive with 10-15 years of healthcare leadership experience and knowledge of the functions of continuing care and rehab in a post-acute care environment. The next CEO must have a strong background in hospital level care and prior experience managing a 500+ person talent pool of clinical and non-clinical staff. An advanced degree in a healthcare related field is required.
