Shared Governance Works in Executive Hiring, if We Let It

Shared governance is a foundation of higher education, yet it is not always easy to achieve, writes Dennis Barden. This is especially true in the context of search committees and the hiring process, but it is a worthwhile goal. "When search committee members trust one another, listen to alternate views, and use their input productively," Barden says, "better hiring decisions are made."
