Every Sin is a Public Sin

"By and large, search committees and governing boards still make hiring decisions on the basis of everything they know. Yet now they know more than ever before about their candidates." This is the premise of Dennis Barden's article in the Chronicle of Higher Education, "Every Sin Is a Public Sin." If institutions know so much more information about the pasts of candidates, should they be more lenient for certain flaws or sins that may not inhibit the individual's ability to succeed in a given role?
