Adventist Health Feather River Hospital - Medical Officer

Paradise, CA

Job Description

Adventist Health, with headquarters in Roseville, California, has retained Witt/Kieffer to conduct a national search for their Medical Officer (MO) of an important Northern California market, Feather River. This position, located in Paradise, California with service to neighboring communities, will be the most senior physician leader across the entire continuum of care for the 100-bed acute-care hospital with 16 clinics with a net patient revenue of over $200 million. The hospital is “A” rated by The Leapfrog Group and recognized as part of The Joint Commission’s annual report “American’s  Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety,” for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for Top Performer on seven Key Quality Measures for 2014.

The MO role represents the opportunity to join a mission-driven and complex organization that is continuing its transition from a federated model of care delivery to a centralized, operating model, focused on the entire continuum of care.  This leader will walk into a nationally-recognized, multi-state health system that has substantial reach and can profoundly impact the health of the populations the system serves.  The MO will lead the care transformation process in a key Adventist market.

Reporting directly to the Feather River President with a dotted line reporting to the Regional Medical Officer, Northern California, the MO will oversee and be responsible for advancing the market’s clinical agenda to continue its journey from a fee-for-service based culture to one focused on fee-for-value.  This leader will foster the clinical leadership and engagement necessary for care redesign and creating a high reliability organization across the full continuum for the acute and ambulatory services, with the latter accounting for 350,000 annual patient visits.

Important Feather River services include: The Cancer Center, which received its third ACOS certification; a designated Stroke Receiving Center; and strong orthopedics, gastroenterology, critical care, emergency department, general surgery, rural health, same-day services, home health, hospice including a hospice house, and a full range of ancillary services.

The successful MO will be a physician with appropriate board certification and progressive experience in clinical practice. The ideal candidate will preferably have a primary care or medical subspecialty background; most important, is the ability to relate to inpatient and ambulatory providers and issues. The MO will have at least five years in a physician/executive/administrative leadership role; an advanced degree in health care or business related field is preferred.  The successful MO will be visible, proactive, decisive, an outstanding communicator, and able to build relationships to engage peers in delivering excellence in clinical care.
