Witt/Kieffer has been retained by Westchester Medical Center to assist in the recruitment of a Chief Nursing Officer for the main Valhalla campus. 

Westchester Medical Center seeks a progressive and experienced executive to serve as the Chief Nursing Officer for the Valhalla campus. The CNO is responsible for all nursing practice at the Valhalla Campus.

Westchester Medical Center (WMC) is a complex, high quality, $1.2 billion academic medical center that serves as the largest entity of WMC Health, a growing, high quality health network serving the 6,000 square mile Hudson Valley region of New York.   Located in the heart of the Hudson Valley, WMC has served as the region’s tertiary and quaternary care referral center, providing high-quality advanced health services and treating the region’s most complex clinical cases.  WMC is also home to a 136-bed comprehensive children’s hospital.

The CNO role will report to the Senior Executive Vice President of WMC Health, Gary Brudnicki. He/she will work with the other WMC network nursing leaders and the WMC executive team to develop new strategies to improve and consolidate nursing processes and operations. The CNO is also responsible for planning and directing a comprehensive nursing strategy for WMC, a complex and highly unionized environment and will ensure that nursing care at WMC meets the needs of the patients and the community.

WMC will embrace a highly visible, warm, inspirational nursing leader that can advocate and be the voice of nursing.  The new CNO will be a strong communicator, focusing on rebuilding nursing morale throughout the organization and providing leadership as the nursing team goes through a cultural and operational transformation.  The new CNO will be committed to fostering an accountable, transparent environment that is supportive of staff and fosters their professional development.
Candidates will have a minimum of five years senior management experience as a Chief Nurse Executive, Vice President of Patient Care Services or highly seasoned Director of Nursing in a large complex academic medical center or system environment. Experience working with labor unions is strongly preferred. Demonstrated professional and technical knowledge and experience in all facets of contemporary nursing management and experience will be important.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing and a Master’s degree in nursing, business administration, hospital administration or a related field. Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York or eligible to receive licensure.
