CenCal Health (CenCal) seeks a dynamic, innovative, mission-oriented physician leader with strong management skills to serve as its next Chief Medical Officer (CMO). This 175,000 member Medi-Cal health plan is financially sound with exceptional quality metrics. Headquartered in Santa Barbara, California, CenCal Health's core mission is 'to improve health and well-being of the counties we serve by providing access to high quality health services, along with education and outreach, for our membership'. It  is dedicated to  ensuring high-value care for low-income residents of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.

In 1983, CenCal formed as a public entity governed by a 13-member Board of Directors appointed by the Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Board of Supervisors. Further, CenCal has a strong provider network of 275 primary care and 1,250 speciality providers.
Reporting to the CEO, the CMO will lead an 80-member staff in health services, pharmacy, quality, and the medical directors. S/he will be responsible for ensuring clinical quality, operational efficiencies, utilization and care management for all members served. The CMO will be a critical and integral member of CenCal's senior management team. S/he will work closely and collaboratively with the provider network and community partners.

The ideal candidate will be a board certified physician, M.D. or D.O., with a strong clinical background and a current California license or ability to obtain one.  Prior health plan experience overseeing medical management functions is essential, preferably in a Medi-Cal or Medicaid environment. A track record of successful personnel management, preferably to include at least five years in a leadership position. Experience working collaboratively with providers and health systems, with particular expertise in working with low-income populations. Must have a visible, engaging leadership style.
