Job Description

Cape Fear Valley Health System (CFVHS) located in Fayetteville, North Carolina has retained Witt/Kieffer to aid in the recruitment of the organization's next Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel.

Cape Fear Valley Health System is an eight hospital healthcare system that serves eastern North Carolina.  With net revenue of $1.2B, Cape Fear Valley Health System is the eighth largest health system in the state.  The System employs more than 8,000 and has over 1,100 beds.  CFVHS operates numerous outpatient facilities including the newly opened Stephen A. Cohen Family Clinic which offers comprehensive mental healthcare to area veterans and their families.    CFVHS also serves as a major teaching hospital with approximately 250 residents and is the primary affiliate of Campbell University Medical School.  The organization is currently embarking on a new venture with a 10-hospital system insurance consortium to contract with the state to provide managed Medicaid coverage. 

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel will be a strategic and collaborative leader responsible for providing legal counsel throughout the organization.  He/she will serve as the chief legal advisor to the senior leadership team and Board of Directors.  The General Counsel will contribute to the organization's growth by minimizing legal and compliance risks faced by the organization in its effort to maximize revenue and provide excellent patient care.  The General Counsel will be joining an established legal team within a financially stable organization motivated to continue building on the success of legal services.

The ideal candidate will possess a law degree from an ABA accredited school of law.  He/she will also have membership or be eligible for membership in the North Carolina State Bar.  Candidates should have five or more years of experience in health care law with a strong track record supporting an integrated health care delivery system, hospital/healthcare business operations and contracting.
