Job Description

Alameda Health System (AHS) has retained Witt/Kieffer to assist in the recruitment of a Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This is an exciting opportunity to join a growth oriented public health care provider and medical training institution recognized for its world-class patient and family centered system of care.

Based in Oakland, California, the organization has served the healthcare needs of Alameda County since 1864 and has a strong legacy of commitment to its diverse communities that still serves as its foundation for growth. Today, AHS is an integrated healthcare system comprised of five hospitals, acute rehabilitation and skilled nursing services, and a network of federally qualified health centers whose physicians and clinical staff provide comprehensive, high quality, cost effective health care services. In FY 2017, AHS had net patient service revenue of $686 million and total operating revenue of $972 million.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO is responsible for the overall direction and management of the finance function for Alameda Health System with direct oversight for financial planning, capital planning, budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, reimbursement, revenue cycle, financing and design and operation of internal control systems. The CFO serves as the primary advisor to the CEO, Senior Executive Team, and Board of Trustees regarding financial matters at both the strategic and operational levels.

Candidates must have a minimum of ten years of senior level financial management experience in a complex, multi-site integrated delivery system or in several clinical delivery settings such as ambulatory, acute, post-acute care, and behavioral health. The ideal candidate will have the knowledge or the ability and desire to learn the intricacies of public financing/funding including Medicaid Managed Care, Medicare and supplemental funding programs supporting indigent care. This individual will have strong values, ethics and integrity, proven decision-making ability, and superb interpersonal and communication skills.
